Ford sales triple in August 2010

Date: 01 Sep 2010

NEW DELHI: Ford India tripled sales in August. It sold 7,925 vehicles this month, a 220 per cent increase compared to August 2009. The Ford Figo remains at the top of the sales charts with more than 34,000 bookings recorded in the 25 weeks since it was introduced. Ford has sold 54,676 vehicles in India so far this year, a 195 percent increase compared to January – August in 2009. As well as its domestic success, the Figo is also in demand overseas. Following the first shipment of India-built Figos to South Africa in May, the hot-selling compact car will be exported to 50 new markets including Mexico, North Africa and the Middle East from next year. "The Figo phenomenon continues, and in addition to strong sales in India, we are excited about the opportunity to export this success to other markets around the world,” said Michael Boneham, Ford India’s president and managing director. “The recent shipment to South Africa and more markets around the world next year, adds a new international chapter to the Figo success story." To support the sustained sales growth, Ford India is ramping up efforts to not only provide new after sales services but also increase its network of world-class sales service centers and outlets. Ford India currently has 167 dealership outlets across 97 cities.
